It was a good experience. I developed new skills that I really enjoy having and are very marketable. I am finally on a career path rather than just moving from job to job.
I was stuck in a dead end job with no skills that would be applicable in a career. As soon as I realized I was capable of understanding and writing code, I saw a possible future in it with endless career possibilities. I stumbled upon an ad for the program on a google search and signed up. The experience was as tough as I expected but I tried hard and did very well. This is probably the best decision I’ve ever made.
It taught me the skills I needed to land my dream job
I lost my job in October of last year and during my job hunt I came across an ad for the Developer’s Bootcamp. While I was already a web developer I wanted to expand my skillset and the Bootcamp offered a number of skills I did not have. Plus, it never hurts to brush up on some existing skills.
When I started in January, I had a personal goal of getting a job where I could use new skills I learned during the Bootcamp. I’m happy to say I have reached my goal and landed a job that will allow me to use skills I learned during Bootcamp.
I went to the coding bootcamp with no experience whatsoever in software and web development. My goal was to jumpstart a brand new career. After going through the program and learning a great deal, I was able to find a full-time job in about three months.
The coding bootcamp at the University of Minnesota helped provide me with the runway I needed to take off my career as a Software Engineer. I’m glad I decided to attend and will forever be thankful for the Instructors, TA’s and staff who were great to work with. The Career Services are relentless and outpouring with support!
It was an amazing experience, learnt a lot of new things and met amazing people.
I chose to attend to gain additional tools into automation of processes and gain exposure into big data. I also chose to attend to program on a regular basis and have real world problems to solve. Having the portfolio allowed me to display my capability to my current employer in combination with my existing skills. It still gives me a community I can reach out to and that can reach out to me for networking as well.
I chose to attend this program because I believed it would be an excellent add-on to my bachelor’s degree in Economics. I am glad I did. Beyond simply learning technical skills and having a broad introduction to a new career field, the community formed in my class was awesome. Obviously, everything is what you make of it but I also am starting a career that I am excited to explore and grow; this program was a fantastic launchpad.
I chose to attend because I wanted a drastic change of career. I needed something that was more sustainable for my physical health, and also something where I could make enough money to support a growing family. After the program, I had planned to move across the country to be closer to my partner’s family, and decided to try to start forming connections and applying for jobs about 2 months before my planned move date.
I was able to secure a full time, contract to hire position in just 1 month after the program ended. The offer was far too good to pass up, so I moved myself much earlier than expected and started my job less than 2 weeks after I was offered the position. I am making more money now, in my first position in the industry, than I ever could have dreamed of making, even after a long and respectable career, in the automotive industry. I can’t thank my instructor and TAs enough for their wisdom and guidance throughout the course. I never would have felt confident enough to even try to get this job without their support.
I really enjoyed my fellow students and the TAs. The program was great as it gave me a timeline and motivation to work. I chose to attend because I knew I wouldn’t be able to keep up the work on my own.
I was looking to get back into software development after a career in telecom with Verizon. The program helped kick start that and allowed me to prove to myself and now to a new employer that I could do software development again and with current technologies.
